I have lived in Austin for more than 20 years. I became a registered yoga instructor in 2002. I came from a background of doing lots of cardio, (running, dance aerobics) and missed the flexible aspect of being fit. I also suffered alot of anxiety and did not breathe properly. I tried yoga! I love it. I studied Ashtanga yoga and Hatha Flow. I recently added Yoga Nidra Meditation to my certifications. I have been teaching for more than 10 years and love sharing with others what I have achieved and watching them devlope their own practice.
I meet each client where they are and listen to their goals. I teach about the benefits of breathing. I observe them through basic yoga poses and correct alighnment issues. I teach about modifications and using props ( blocks, strap, blankets). If they have an athletic practice in place (runner, strength training) I offer poses more specific to them. We breath, move, and then integrate through relaxation meditation. I have a man that has worked his whole life and at 64 he wanted to learn yoga. The first year he came once a week for 90 minutes. He barely moved, had trouble breathing and no real body awareness. After three years, he is stronger, a lot more flexible and enjoys coming. He is still tight, but has a lot more body awareness, is balancing longer on his own. He has made me a better teacher.
