I was originally born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. However, I consider myself to be a Houstonian because I have lived here for 33 years. I am a certified RYT 200 yoga instructor. I have been fortunate to work with professional athletes, top corporations, hospitals, churches and private clients. My classes are designed to cultivate energy, balance, awareness, alignment and relaxation in a physical but nurturing and encouraging environment. My love for yoga began in 2000. I was watching a morning talk show segment about yoga. I became curious and searched for a class to join. When I walked in to the class, I saw the instructor doing a headstand and all I could think was about was what in the world have I gotten myself into? My nerves began to go away as the instructor taught the class how to breathe with each posture. I felt my breath and body open as I moved into triangle pose. I was hooked! I went from going to class once a week to five days a week. I loved the way my body became so flexible and strong. However, the ultimate transformation was my mind. Yoga means union and I was definitely feeling a union in my mind, body and spirit. I wanted to learn more about yoga, so I decided to sign up for a year long teaching certification course. I never expected to teach. I just wanted to gain more insight about yoga. However, yoga is something you can't keep to yourself. I knew that I had to share this awesome experience of alignment, awareness and enlightenment with others. My favorite thing about being a trainer is helping others. The greatest feeling in the world is watching a client advance from I can't to I can.
Each client can expect a good workout. They can expect to release stress and leave the class refreshed and rejuvenated. They can expect to not only be physically transformed but mentally as well.
"Dear Monique, I just wanted to express my joy in having been in your yoga class. When I first began I had intermittent low back pain, which has greatly improved thanks to your class. In your class I have gained an awareness of my own physical ability and I now have a solid method of stress relief (yoga) that is both strengthening, yet relaxing. You have a wonderful approach to teaching such a diverse group of students and it has been such a benefit to have you focus on 'individual' ability. It was refreshing to have a teacher that gave the class permission to adapt poses and you obviously had a concern for injury prevention. I have taken other yoga classes from other people, but by far you are expert at conveying the spiritual, and physical dimensions to yoga. I thank you and I will continue to wish much success to your Tuesday class. All the best" - Kathy Prosser
