I have been involved in sport and fitness my entire life since playing soccer at age 4 and to this day enjoy running and working out. I turned 34 this October so that make 30 years of living an active, healthy lifestyle. In high school I excelled in track and cross country. I learned a lot about running and training from my college coach, NJCAA Hall of Famer, Dr. Terry Hill. After junior college I joined the Navy serving on active duty until 2004. I was a member of the all-Navy cross country and track teams. From 2003-2004 I was deployed to Iraq with the 24th Marines Expeditionary Unit. Upon leaving active duty I attended Southern Illinois University where I obtained my bachelor of science, majoring in exercise science. I have had the privilege to have great mentors and work with great professionals. While attending SIU I opened my own personal training business where I trained at people’s houses and made a deal with a local, small 24 hour fitness center to train a few clients for college. It was great experience. After graduation I worked at a few different gyms in this region: Gold’s Gym and Energy Fitness. I am involved with several of our wellness programs. I teach classes to veterans about exercise and being healthy and I also teach our MOVEmployee classes as well. I have held a very instrumental role in getting a fitness center in the hospital for an added benefit for employees to use on there off time. Currently I am in the planning process for indoor and outdoor walking trails here at the VA medical center. I really want to make a career of the fitness industry, it is my passion!
