Originally from N. Ireland, my career sprang from my 7 years as a cardiac nurse. Along the way, I turned to personal training as a way to help promote health and wellness. Having a chronic illness myself (an autoimmune arthritis), I witnessed first hand the health benefits of exercise; both physically and mentally (living with pain is not easy). Additionally, I am a home workout specialist because it's not always possible (or preferable) to go to a busy gym. While some may know me as an original co-founder of Girls Gone Strong, I made my name on YouTube with my signature kettlebell and Body Weight Metabolic workouts. With extensive program design skills which I refined during my time as co-founder and coach at GetGlutes, I now deliver effective, challenging and fun fitness programs at every level of my in-person and online coaching services, providing structure and support for my clients. I meet people at their Point A and walk with them to Point B.

What to Expect

Firstly we have a free consultation either by phone, on Skype. This consultation involves me getting to know my new client better, and them getting to know me. It's important to see if the coach/coachee relationship is a good fit for both parties. The central mission of my business is to meet my clients where they are at on their fitness journey and take them to where they want to go so getting to know more about their history with exercise and what is driving/impeding them helps when structuring their coaching. During the first meeting I gather information about the prospective client so that I understand their goal(s), why it's important, time frame, any any other expectations they have regarding training. I listen out for any anxiety or self-doubt they might have about what the sessions might be like so I can provide information about my training approach and offer a proposal for how many sessions, how many months, and any additional advice that will help them in reaching their goals. Once they are happy to continue, I ask them to complete a Heath Questionnaire/Par-Q to identify and categorize any risk of conditions that may require exercise modification or clearance by a medical professional. Next, we move to completing my client consent and agreement form so we can begin planning their first training session. The first session is what I call a "foundations day" and is much less intense as we go through my client's movement assessment which establishes their baseline. This helps me tailor workouts to their current capabilities. If the client is inexperienced with exercises, I will spend this initial session refining exercise form on 8 foundation movement patterns which are essential to establish early on so progressions can be considered carefully. These movement patterns are: a squat, a hip hinge, push-up, a glute bridge, lunge, overhead press, row, and a plank. These patterns show me my clients current motor control (mobility, stability, co-ordination, awareness) and technique. Any tightness or pain can be addressed (appropriate referrals made to other professionals if required) and the safest, individualised plan made to help them reach and exceed their goals. Each session after that may include skill work along side the workouts so they reach their goal by building on a strong foundation. I am always happy to answer questions along the way.

Client Success Story

Robyn is an online client from the UK who is a busy ER Nurse: "I have had two, three month programmes working out online with Marianne over the last 3 years. I first found her coaching site myomytv accidentally when looking how to use kettlebells. I did not want to become a member of a gym. I had a couple of starter kettlebells and I needed to know how to use them and I wanted to lose fat and gain muscle. Her site and programmes offered exactly what I was looking for as a beginner. My body shape transformed in the first three months. And despite have a break from workout sessions over a time since the first three months, I maintained the most part of the muscle shape and definition I had worked on. Returning to kettlebells the second time around as more of an advanced exerciser, was to improve all over fitness to prepare me for 6 months backpacking. By the second month I was noticing a lot of difference in my cardio fitness, flatter belly and arm and leg definition. I love working with Marianne. Even though it is done online with much distance between us and I needed to motivate myself more and be disciplined because of this, she provides a very personal programme and offers a great amount of support. I think the key with Marriane is that she listens and sees you as a whole person rather than a fitness object. She works on your emotional barriers to really drive you to your goals. She is a very intuitive, knowledgable, organised and gentle personal trainer. She has motivated me to be a better exerciser as well as a to be a better person to myself and others. I couldn't recommend her highly enough." In-person Client, Angela hired me to help her get in shape for her wedding: "I cannot recommend training by Marianne highly enough. I was completly unfit, hadn't exercised in about a year and had just got engaged. I had came to the point where I wad uncomfortable with myself and new I needed to do something but hated running or going to a gym. I was embarrassed that I didn't really know what I was doing and without someone to push me on if I'm honest I just went and did a bit to say I had been but hardly ever broke a sweat. I had seen different things about kettle bells and thought I would maybe like to give them a go. I researched trainers in my area and to my delight I found Marianne. I had known her through a mutual friend years ago and thought I would ask her to help. It was the best thing I ever did. Marianne Tailored my workout to suit me from the word go. I loved every bit of my sessions. I felt stronger, healthier, fitter and more confident as a result. And if I do say so myself I looked good on my wedding day lol My only negative comment is she went and left the country and I need her again after having a baby and have let myself go. COME BACK MARIANNE." Chris has been my client the longest out of everyone: "Coach Marianne has been training me for over three years now. I am leaner, stronger, and have better cardiovascular stamina than when I swam competitively and played team sports over thirty years ago. She took a banged up fifty year-older and made him feel younger and more confident. She is also a genuine, caring person, and a true asset to the fitness industry. She is both a great trainer and an inspiration. "
