Hi there, My name is Lisa and I absolutely love fitness! Probably annoyingly so :-) Haha. As a gymnast from a young age I spent a lot of time developing my skills as an athlete and enjoyed it. After about 13 years of being a club gymnast I switched gears to be a college cheerleader at University of Michigan. It was incredible to be part of an amazing team and continue to stay fit as well as get a degree in biopsychology and neuroscience. After undergrad, I worked as a trainer for two years, led group fitness classes and was an indoor cycling instructor. It was a truly fantastic experience and it really never felt like work. After those full time years, I decided to pursue dentistry as I have always been big into science and health care. Through school at NYU, I still continued to teach spin classes and group fitness classes like Strength and Conditioning or Bosu classes. I didn't have quite as much free time but couldn't pull me away from it. Thus, why I now am working part time as personal trainer and dentist. Hmm... I wonder who would you rather see? Haha Ok! Enough talking about myself. My goal is to help you achieve your goals! A lot of what we can do together is based on setting specific goals and giving the proper time to achieve them. Whether it is weight loss, strength gains or sport specific we can come up with an exercise plan tailored perfectly for you. I have been fortunate enough to work with many different ages and experience levels. My goal is always to keep things interesting and fun where you are looking forward to working out. I would love to meet you and help you reach all your fitness goals!
American Counsil on Exercise
It's hard for me to call people who train with me clients. Because honestly we become friends through a the process of getting or maintaining being in great physical shape. You should expect that I will come prepared with different fitness regimens each time we work together and they will be catered to your likes and dislikes. We will monitor your progress and I will do everything in my power to get you where you want to be physically. I will be your number one fan and cheerleader!
Wow tough one. I do pride myself on having very successful trainees and it is hard to pick just one. I guess one I will talk about Sarah (not real name). Sarah was 48 and had been in a very challenging and abusive marriage. She came to me after recently being divorced to help feel better and lose weight. She had 3 children and didn't have much time to herself. When I met her I could feel her sadness even through her seemingly bubbly personality. She had a goal of losing 25 lbs and to become more fit overall. She struggled with not having any energy to play with kids or do much of anything but watch tv. When younger she was about 90 pounds lighter than present. But like a lot of women, after each pregnancy she kept a little extra weight on. After that there was the strain of being a mom, working full time and a unsupportive husband. This caused additional weight gain as well as more negative body image. She used food to cope with stress. This is very common. She also didn't have a ton of time to work out. She gave so much to her family and work that working out was not possible. On our first meeting, I spent time getting to know Sarah. I wanted to know all the normal stuff . Like do you like running or lifting weights. Whats your favorite exercise and so on. But also I wanted to know how I could help her. She had been taking care of everyone else and somehow she didn't feel that she deserved time to her self. In my mind all I could think is for this time together we are going to get fit, have fun and Im gonna do my absolute best to make her reach her goals. So we set some goals. Pretty easy ones at first but they evolved as she improved her cardiorespiratory system and strength. I went at a relatively slow pace because she hadn't worked out in a long time. Throughout the months, I truly looked forward to sessions with Sarah. She was losing weight, getting stronger and moving forward with her life. We crushed her initial goal of her losing 25 pounds and kept moving forward. Over the course of next few months she continued to get fit cardiovascularly, more flexible and more overall muscle tone. She looked like a different person! When everything we reached our final goal she had lost 100 pounds and weighed less than she did in high school! We are now in a maintenance phase and she has kept weight off and stayed fit for 3 years. She recently remarried and so glad she has made a new life for herself. I know its sounds cheesy but exercise can change your life in the best way, It helps with stress reduction and release great endorphins in the body. So it's worth the hardwork :-)
