I was born in Mexico but raised in the suburbs of Houston my entire life. I currently reside in the Clear Lake area with my wonderful wife Taylor. In high school, I was a standout athlete receiving multiple all-state honors in both football and baseball. I was also the athlete of the year during my senior year, and I had hopes of pursuing a professional career in baseball after that. However, due to poor training habits, I was plagued with injuries from my senior year going forward into college. I underwent shoulder surgery right before my first year of college, and then dealt with chronic episodes of back pain for several years. I truly believe that if I had learned better training habits and techniques, then I could have avoided the injuries that prevented me from competing in sports. Knowing that I could have changed the past with better habits helps fuel my motivation to help others achieve their goals without exposing them to unnecessary injuries. I obtained a bachelor of science degree in fitness and human performance at the University of Houston-Clear Lake in 2012, and in December 2014, I will have finished my master of science degree in exercise and health sciences degree at the same university. In 2012, I also became certified as a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association which is arguably the most renown and difficult certification to obtain in the strength and conditioning field. My motivation as a trainer is this: to help other people achieve their health, fitness and athletic goals by using safe and effective, evidence-based methods. After working with me, you'll see that I'm truly a teacher at heart. My biggest desire is for my clients to grow in knowledge and learn how to make better decision about their health. As my clients learn more, I always encourage them to teach others what they have learned. My favorite thing about being a trainer is hearing about my other clients succeeding with their health and reaching out to their friends and families with the knowledge and experience they have gained. My favorite client success story is about a 44 year old gentleman who wanted to start personal training but was dealing with chronic bilateral shoulder pain as well as chronic bilateral knee pain as well as intermittent back pain. Despite all these problems, this client was mainly concerned about his weight over 300 pounds. Although he wanted to get his weight down to around 250 pounds, we had to work on rehabilitating both his shoulders and knees first in order to get there. He just wasn't able to push himself hard enough to lose weight because of chronic pain. However, after over a year of rehabilitation and training, he was finally able to start losing the weight and eventually got below 275 pounds before he underwent a rotator cuff repair on one of his shoulders, an order by his orthopedic doctor. Currently, this client is undergoing extensive physical therapy before any more personal training. He is one of my favorite success stories, because he understood and was willing to dedicate the time it took to rehabilitate himself before attempting to lose serious weight. Now, he feels stronger and better because his injuries are not severe anymore, and he's now able to push himself harder than before because of less pain.

What to Expect

My philosophy is to help others reach their individual health and fitness goals with the safest and most effective, evidence-based methods. Whether your goal is to rehabilitate a chronic injury or to improve your sports performance on the field, I can help you reach your goal. A typical training session consists of a short warm-up approximately 5-10 minutes. Afterwards, the client can expect approximately six resistance exercises followed by a short to moderate amount of conditioning. The resistance exercises are typically multi-joint in nature and involve large muscle groups. They will involve both lower body and upper body. The type of conditioning depends on the client's individual capacity and goals. Each client is encouraged to ask questions throughout the entire training session, including those questions regarding nutrition.
