Hi - I'm Jenna. I have been active in sports and physical activity since high school. I have done yoga, long-distance running, spin, crossfit, and olympic lifting. I now train in a powerlifting style and work everyday to build a strong base level strength that promotes musculature balance. I also strongly believe in the positive impacts of incorporating more movement into your daily life, so in addition to my structured workouts 4 times per week, I try to incorporate walks and time outside in as much as possible. I received my Masters degree in Health Behavior and Health Education from the University of Michigan School of Public Health and have worked as a Wellness Coach with university students. I'm also a certified Pregnancy and Postpartum Athleticism coach for those that are looking for guidance through their pregnancy and postpartum experience.
A typical session will start with some light activation movements to get the key muscle groups we'll be working that day warmed up. Depending on how often I see the client, we will either move onto a full body workout or may concentrate on upper or lower body movements if we meet more regularly. You can expect to see things like squats, deadlifts, bench press, lunges, and push-ups in a typical workout. After the main strength portion of the workout is complete we'll move on to some accessory movements to promote muscular balance/injury prevention, and will finish the workout with additional exercises to strengthen the core.
When this client, who is in their 60's, first started with me they had a lot of knee pain that limited the movements they felt able to do. After some time working together on developing more posterior strength, the client is now able to do squats and lunges with no pain and was even able to keep up with her daughter on a hiking trip!
