About Me

Eric started his journey in health and fitness at the age of 13. After growing up as an overweight youth, he found exercise and nutrition as an empowering path for changing his life.

Eager to get out in the field, Eric completed his Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Missouri State University early and moved to California. There, he attended California State University at Long Beach and received a Master’s degree in Nutrition and Exercise Physiology. While his conventional education is foundational, he believes that continuing education is where health professionals really evolve and make a difference. To solidify his knowledge and expertise as a fitness professional Eric received credentials as a Certified Exercise Physiologist (EP-C) and Level II Exercise is Medicine Practitioner (EIM2) through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), a Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), and Level II Functional Movement Techniques (FMT2) through RockTape. With a strong foundation in the science of movement, Eric then took his nutrition education and practice to the next level by becoming a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). It is this area that really sets him apart as a health and wellness professional as he brings the full picture of fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle together.

Eric opened his first health and wellness studio, Progressive Health & Performance (PHP), in February of 2018. Since then, PHP has exploded in popularity and has grown to a team of 12 Kinesiologists and Functional Medicine Practitioners to help nearly every population. PHP has specialists in:

I’ve been a client of the owner, Eric Cruz for about 6 years now. He’s finally opened up a gym of his own and I definitely love the atmosphere, goals he has for the place, the trainers he’s acquired along the journey, the equipment, etc. But the knowledge and commitment to each client is what makes you want to stay and train. I started as a naive person wanting to get into a healthy workout routine and fix my weaknesses into a woman who loves to workout, set and achieve new goals, and now a an expectant mother learning how to stay healthy and workout and teach different goals of mine. I’m always learning new things and feel apart of a family here. This isn’t like any other training gym you’ve been to, it’s a complete commitment to your goals inside and outside of the gym whether it’s personal, physical, nutritional, or to fix injuries.

After a long deliberation with my self , I decided to finally get myself a personal trainer. I've never worked out a day in my life (except the normal stroll with my dog , every other day) . So this was a little scary. But thankfully Eric made this experience a wonderful one. From the first email, address me by name and acknowledged my current situation and goals that were included in the questionnaire ( the other trainers I had respond to me, we're like, on auto reply or something. Maybe they were out on vacation? Idk) Anyway, pro health was the best decision I've made. If your nervous about working out, suffer from anxiety or just not sure if you can really pull it off. Eric will help you reach your goals and you'll see results fast. I did. The work out plan he had for me was 100% customized for me. Within the first 2 weeks my butt and hips were getting toner then I've ever seen them, it felt so good seeing my body transform so fast. And to be honest I WAS NOT dieting, HOWEVER at the same time my mind didn't want a bunch of junk food no more and my moods we're so much better and i motivated everyday. Pro health is a perfect example of what a personal trainer should be knowledgeable, ( I had a lot of random questions and he was able to answer them every time ) friendly, confident and makes sure you have a personal experience reaching your goals and keeps you motivated. I've been working with Eric for a little over 3 months and have been very pleased with the results. Not only have I been pain free in my shoulder, but I've also gotten much stronger. On our initial meeting, he was very quickly able to tell what I needed to focus on and made a plan to fit my needs.
