Emily earned her masters in health promotion management from Marymount University in 2010. She comes from a family of lawyers and knew that the path for her was to help keep people with "real jobs" happy and healthy. Emily feels that the right combo of strength training, interval training, and body-weight training is the magic bullet of a health promotion program for people of all abilities and backgrounds. Growing up, Emily looked forward to gymnastics practice, weekend soccer games, and watching strongman competitions. After co-captaining her collegiate soccer team at James Madison University in Virginia, and earning All-American Strength and Conditioning honors in her senior year, she was searching for a new active outlet to fill the void. She has found that weightlifting and CrossFit elicits the same excitement, and much more. She has qualified for the National Championships for Olympic weightlifting 3 years in a row- and this year she is considered a masters athlete because of her wise age! She is thrilled to be able to share her joy of movement, help challenge you to discover your own inner beastly athlete, and together prove that anybody and any body can be powerful, strong, and confident.
Each session will include a warm-up and cooldown. We will spend time learning and refining skills/movements. Depending upon your goal, we'll make sure your workout pushes you just a bit further.
In Washington DC, I worked with an individual who found the general warm-up to be challenging in his first session. We were able to cultivate an atmosphere where he remained positive/excited to come work out each session. With consistency and proper progressions, after 6 months he was squatting, deadlifting, and rowing with confidence and heavier and faster than he ever thought he could.
