Scarcely a moment went by when I wasn’t thinking about or planning my next meal or workout. This took so much of my time, energy and attention that I had little left (and what was left was low quality) to invest in the stuff that really mattered to me like my family, my work and my well being. So despite being a personal trainer and nutrition coach, I learned how to let go of and step away from the endless body project, stop dieting and overtraining, and let fitness and nutrition be something that supports my life, instead of something that defines it. Now I’m passionate about helping other people do the same thing. Health and fitness habits are empowering and important, but they shouldn’t be the boss of you. <br> MY VALUES: I believe all bodies are worthy of respect and care. As someone who lives in a thin, able-bodied, heterosexual, cisgender body, I understand that I benefit from unearned privileges and I prioritize the comfort of those who hold marginalized identities (based on race, sexual orientation, gender, abilities and body shape or size) over those who hold dominant identities. <br> Because weight stigma and diet culture are social justice issues that inform the work that I do, I do not work with clients seeking intentional weight loss. I take a weight-neutral, non-diet approach to fitness and support eating and exercising in ways that allow the body to feel and perform its best at any shape and size.

What to Expect

***All training and coaching sessions are conducted live online via Zoom during COVID-19*** One-on-one training with me over Zoom. Our initial session will focus on collecting information through a comprehensive assessment which includes learning about your health history, lifestyle and your level of physical fitness. Once I have this information, I will design a program of safe and effective exercises selected for your fitness level and goals. I will lead you through appropriate strength, cardiovascular, mobility, balance and/or agility exercises. Regular assessments and evaluations are conducted throughout your program.

"I really appreciate the thorough movement screening Emiko did of my body upon our first meeting and the follow-up screening she did a few months later. Wow, what a difference! Sometimes it’s hard to see the progress you are making until you have something to compare it with. It’s such a good feeling to see all the hard work pay off! Even my doctor noticed my improvement and commented on it. <br>When I first came to her I could only do wall push-ups standing almost fully upright due to a lot of scar tissue surrounding my right shoulder. Working with Emiko changed the way I think about exercise. I used to think that “working on my core” just meant “trying to get a six pack”. But once my core got stronger, I also noticed that my back pain was gone!

She was able to motivate me and she used approaches that worked for me. If I hit a slump, she found a way to help me out of it. The best part? Within 2 weeks, I was already seeing changes in my before and after pics!

Emiko's guidance on nutrition has been invaluable - she is not about dieting or restriction. She teaches you to learn new habits, one at a time, which makes it easy to adjust to a new way of eating and thinking about food. I've learned so much from her!
