In my first year of college, I was very scrawny muscle-wise with fat on me at 140 lbs. I decided to workout at my college gym, not really knowing how to exercise and proper nutrition, to gain mass. I eventually did. I went up to 160 lbs freshman year. I gained a lot of mass, but fat too. As the years went by my nutrition became worse and workouts went from six days to three days to zero. I blew up to 175 lbs (with atrophied muscle) by the end of college and said, "This is enough" and knew I needed to change something. I got a job at NYSC as a floor trainer and later became a NESTA certified personal trainer, and learned proper nutrition. During this time I had lost a ton of fat and got into great shape. I decided to leave NYSC to pursue my master's degree to become a human movement specialist. I just completed Biomechanics Specialist Program with NESTA and finished studying for CSCS to become a strength and conditioning coach. While doing this I have trained friends, family members and neighbors. I am a huge advocate of calisthenics for overall strength, endurance, flexibility and balance.
NESTA Personal Trainer Certification
After analyzing the client, each session will have some form of cardio along with resistance training in order to maximize fat oxidation if they are looking for fat loss. If it is strength they are after, then low reps with high volume will do.
One client that I had was a woman in Queens whose father owned a Gold's Gym. She had a hip replacement, rheumatoid arthritis and was overweight. I set a program to minimize any pain, gave her nutrition tips, and taught her how to do all forms of exercise at the gym and home when she wasn't being trained by me. A few weeks went by and she had lost weight and gained strength, then Christmas came along which worried me because she went on vacation. She kept with the program and when I saw her she had lost even more weight, looked younger, and more vibrant. Her rheumatoid arthritis went away by using elastic bands and she was ecstatic with the results.
