Looking for a personal trainer in Plano, TX? Personal trainers are a dime-a-dozen, however, finding the right one for you doesn’t have to be a daunting task. A quality trainer really only needs two things to guarantee your success: knowledge, and passion. Hey guys! My name is Benjamin David, owner of strengthandhypertrophy.com I’ve been a personal trainer in the Plano area for nearly a decade training competitive youth & adult athletes as well as people who simply want to get in better shape. If you don’t mind though, I’d like to tell you a short story of how I got here. About ten years ago I use to work at an ice rink in Frisco, Tx. where I was just handing out skates, sweeping the floor, doing miscellaneous tasks and other clean-up duties at the end of my shift. Apart from that, I was training with the Future Soldier program because I desperately wanted to join the military. Everyone had such high hopes for me. My recruiters were certain that I was going to get in. Even my whole family was cheering me on as I updated them with my progress. I was the 3rd fastest runner in their 2-mile test (14:20), and I had everyone beat on the strength tests. Every. Single. Time. I’ll never forget it when after dominating yet another PT test, my recruiter, Sgt. Turner said I was a tank. My future seemed certain and it was the best time of my life. I was going to be a soldier in the United States Army. But in the end, the Army rejected me. All the recruiters, especially Sgt. Tuner, as well as the other cadets, were disappointed. That was a sad day. After training with these men for 11 months we all shook hands and after some solemn goodbyes and good lucks, I walked out of that office for the last time. I was absolutely devastated. After all that training and preparation and longing to be a part of something major, something bigger than myself, I was rejected by the very institution I practically worshiped. I didn’t know what to do with myself. So, I kept working at the ice rink. It was OK but I was bored with my job and didn’t feel like I was really going anywhere or challenging myself professionally. A good friend of mine said that I would be a good candidate for a fitness trainer. He was my workout partner when we went to the gym together and I had helped him get back up to his old squat weight after he had an ankle surgery from a hockey accident. He told me I should look into becoming a personal trainer so I decided “Why not?” I’ll be honest, I was uneasy about it at first. I didn’t want my hobby, the thing I loved more than anything, to become a job. But oh boy was I wrong. I had no idea how fulfilling helping other people would be. One Sunday morning, while I was working at the front desk reading my Personal Trainer Course Material, one of the hockey coaches approached me and asked me about the army. See, everyone at the rink knew me. They all knew I had been training to get into the army for nearly a year. Everyone was so well-wishing and supportive and after I told him that I didn’t get in, his attitude was “Maybe it’s for the best”. Maybe he was right. He then asks me “What are you reading?” “I’m studying to become a personal trainer,” I said. He replies, “Oh yea? Well if you’re not doing anything, how about you train my team this Sunday at 10 am?” I said, “well, I’d love to but I’m not even certified yet.” He replies, “But you’re built like you must know something, and you will be certified soon anyways right? What do you think? You up for it?” I was a young 23-years-old and it was the beginning of everything. It’s been nearly 10 years since that day and quite a lot has happened. I went from putting away skates and cleaning floors to having the privilege to train with some of the most well-known internationally qualified athletes within the Junior and Senior levels of the DFSC, as well as be a part of the Dallas Stars Elite Minor Bantam team. A lot of people visit ice rinks and it all exploded from there. I’ve helped all kinds of people get in better shape from city council members, police, firemen, active duty and retired military… Imagine that… The guy that was rejected by the army was now training their soldiers. You probably won’t believe this if I told you, but I even worked on a project as a consultant with someone who was working for the Pentagon re-writing the military’s standards for nutrition. I had come full circle and found my real calling in life. This is the story of how I became one of most well known trainers in the Frisco & Plano youth sports arenas. But I didn’t stop there, as a participating member of the IDEA Health and Fitness Foundation, I’ve been awarded 7 different certifications from two different schools as well as being awarded an “Elite Level” personal trainer certification from the International Sports Science Association. But you didn’t come here to read a story and no matter how good it may or may not be, you came here because you want to get in shape.
