I believe in working with the body to produce the outcome you desire. The nervous system is eager to give you the performance you crave if you understand the mechanisms which regulate it. Understanding why pain and tightness happen is primary to resolving it. Once we understand the primary cause, it becomes a lot easier to start making progress.
ACSM
I make an effort to really challenge your muscle tissue so the next session you can build on what you performed previously. My goal is for the client to leave each session of mine feeling better in some way or another, whether that be more flexibility, better overall strength, or less pain.
One of my clients presented me with a problem: his hamstrings were very tight. After two minutes of different, very easy, neurological drills, I was able to put enough good information into the brain to relax his hamstrings and allow him to touch his toes. In the middle of a rowing set, on my clients complained about her shoulder hurting her as she performed the movement. I explained to her how a neurological connection between her hip and her should can aid in relieving that pain. By performing a simple hip drill designed to improve the shoulder hip pathway, her shoulder pain went away and we were able to go back to training. These are everyday events which (at first) seem like magic. As you learn more about the brain though, you will discover that neurology is the key to moving better -- the key to unlock your potential.
