Hi, my name is Thomas. I have been involved in the health and fitness industry for most of my life. I earned a Bachelor's in psychology from The State University of New York at Albany and degrees in Human Biology and Chiropractic from The National College of Chiropractic in Chicago. I was in private practice in chiropractic for ten years before making a career switch into fitness about twelve years ago. In my clinical practice I observed that most of my patients were suffering from a lack of activity that resulted in the injuries that brought them under my care. I got better results with a combinations of chiropractic and exercise prescription and instruction than I was getting using chiropractic alone. I felt the best use of my experience and expertise would be in teaching and training as the antidote for a sedentary lifestyle that was causing so much damage. Soon after I closed my practice I got certified through NASM and began training full time. Over time, I've build a clientele that shows more interest in "aging gracefully" rather than those who train for competition or sport. The work I do emphasizes proper form to ensure an injury-free experience with an aim toward an improvement in active daily life.

What to Expect

People aren't file numbers, they are, at any one time, the sum of their experience and they bring that to every session. I enjoy getting to know people because it helps me read when the good and bad days are. That affects the quality of the work we do together. Sometimes they need a push and sometimes they can't wait to shoulder press a Buick. I gauge those feelings when I create the day's workout plan. I make on-the-spot assessments from a medical standpoint as to what hurts or may cause a limitation so I have to be flexible with the plan. I cater not just to the long term goals but also to the trainee's ability on any given day. All phases of the workout are catered to the individual. My primary interest is training in support of proper biomechanics and muscular balance with personalized attention to my client's overall physical condition and particular weaknesses resulting from inactivity, injury or atrophy. A secondary specialty of mine involves the prevention and care of low back injuries. I have personally experienced multiple low back surgeries and am acutely aware of the challenges presented by low back compromise. I especially enjoy working with older clients who need guidance with stability, clients who aren't into the gym scene, people recovering from injuries and people seeking to achieve a functional fitness level so that they may stay active as they age.

Client Success Story

Mike was 45 when we started together. He was close to 300lb and his heaviest weight on a shoulder side raise was 2.5 lb. He couldn't do one push up and required help standing from a seated position. He was an active youth but his job as an attorney kept him desk-bound for the better part of two decades. I helped him restructure his approach to nutrition and implemented basic stability and strength exercises, gradually progressing with his abilities. I helped him resolve some old nagging injuries that were impeding his progress at a frequency of three times a week. Now, some eight years later, he's skiing, playing recreational football, injury-free and paying his tailor exorbitant rates to take in his wardrobe.
